The Multiverse platform is free for non-commercial use. If you don't charge consumers
or run ads in your world, then you don't pay Multiverse anything, as long as your world
is in the Multiverse Network. If you use the platform commercially, Multiverse offers
you two options: revenue-sharing or up-front payment.
You can download the Multiverse platform (server suite, client, and tools) with our
full technology and free assets, and spend as long as you like building your virtual world.
Have as many testers or free players as you like, and you won't have to pay us anything.
We make our money through revenue-sharing, when you charge consumers or run in-game ads.
If you represent a fully-funded company, you can choose instead to license the
Multiverse platform by paying a fee up-front, avoiding the revenue-sharing.
To discuss up-front payment with a sales representative, please contact .
You can build your game with whatever revenue model you want: subscription, flat fee,
in-game micropayments, whatever works for you. Multiverse handles consumer billing
and credit card processing. You don't have to worry about deadbeat charges or any
of the other pitfalls of financial transactions.
Licensing Provisions
For revenue-sharing or non-commercial uses, Multiverse will license the platform
to you without up front fees. In return, you agree to operate your world on the platform
and within the Multiverse Network. Multiverse will collect end-user fees, as set by you,
for subscriptions, access fees, in-world item purchases or any other purposes.
Multiverse will retain 10% of the gross revenue from your world. In addition,
Multiverse retains the collection costs, which are the actual costs associated
with financial transactions, including credit card processing fees and billing-related
customer service costs.
You agree to:
List in the Multiverse Network directory any world that you make available
to the general public; this makes it available to any consumer in the Multiverse Network.
Note that this does not allow a consumer to enter your world, only to sign up for it under
whatever terms you choose.
Operate your world within the Multiverse Terms of Service. Multiverse has the right to
remove a world from the Network that it deems in violation of the Terms of Service.
Use the "Powered by Multiverse" (or similar approved) logo graphic provided by Multiverse
in any marketing or promotional material for your world, and follow additional similar
promotional terms to be defined.
If you have further questions, just send them to us at
,
and we'll add them to the FAQ.
Does Multiverse operate my world?
No, you download and run the Multiverse server on your own hardware.
We are however working with hosting partners to provide high-performance
hosting services for interested developers. We will announce details later this year.
What about customer service costs?
Multiverse provides customer service for billing-related issues. Of course, we can't
speak to specific details of your world, so you are responsible for providing world-related customer service.
What if I don't want to charge anything for my world?
If you decide not to charge customers at all, and you don't run in-game ads, then
you don't pay Multiverse anything. If you decide later to begin charging customers
or running ads, then you start paying Multiverse at that time.
Do I have to share revenue?
We created the revenue-sharing option specially for independent developers, who
may not have a large budget to purchase world-class technology at the start of
their project. However, if you work at a fully-funded company, we are happy to
discuss paying up front. Please contact us at
.
What about advertising revenue?
We are in the process of selecting and integrating an in-game advertising network.
Once we have finished this process, we will provide pricing details for advertising revenue.
When will the legal documents and Terms of Service be available?
We are working to incorporate the terms presented on this page into legal documents and an initial TOS. We'll make them available as soon as possible.
What does it mean for a game to be in your network? Can my game not be in your network?
The Multiverse client can access any world built on the Multiverse Platform.
In this way, the player uses the client to access, essentially, a network of worlds.
Any world built on the Multiverse platform is in the Multiverse Network.
If you want to use the Multiverse platform to build a game that is not in the
Multiverse Network, you must negotiate a special deal with us.
Please contact us at
for additional information.
What is included in collection costs?
Our actual per-transaction costs for credit card processing, actual incurred customer
service costs for billing-related inquires, disputes, and so on, plus any fraud-related chargebacks.
You must pay these collection costs to Multiverse in addition to the 10% licensing fee.
How much should I expect to pay for collection costs?
We expect our costs to be 3-10% of gross revenue for a world, depending on a variety of factors.
Through economies of scale, Multiverse will be able to provide lower collection costs than
any developer could achieve individually.
What are the payment terms? How soon do I get my money?
Our payment terms are Net 45 days after the end of each month, which enables us to resolve credit card disputes within that billing cycle.
What if my game is supported by donations?
The terms are the same as for subscription-based games.
What about branding? Will my customers see my branding and logos,
or will they feel that they are in the Multiverse brand and we are a sub-brand?
We will provide a lot of flexibilty for you to brand all aspects of your virtual world.
You can customize your world assets patcher page that users see
when the client is downloading your world's media assets. You can create your
own splash screen that users see when they actually enter your world. Additionally,
you have complete control of your virtual world UI (icons, 2D logos, and so on).
Will Multiverse help promote my world?
Multiverse will continue to promote the Network, which will bring in a steady stream of new potential users. In addition, we will provide co-marketing opportunities for you to promote your world within the Multiverse.
Will Multiverse support "grouped game accounts," where a user pays
a single price and gets access to any game in the group?
An arrangement like this would be purely at your discretion. While Multiverse will not
require this type of subscription model, we understand that some developers may
want it, so we would like to develop and make it available as an option.
We will announce details in the future.
